I stay pretty close to Stuartfield so was well impressed by this story which Simon had highlighted to me.
I have been in contact with Allan Brownie and have just to find a suitable time to go and meet him but from my chat I had with him I can echo Simon's positive comments.

Re: Humans do have psychic powers, study claims
Hi Davie, Could I suggest that you consider tossing 100 coins, dowsing and making a note, before you toss each coin, whether the result will be heads or tails. Then compare your dowsing with the actual result and see if the element of chance changes from your previous experiment. ...and when you've...

Re: Humans do have psychic powers, study claims
Ok, a bit later than I had planned but the snow has played a bit of havoc with everything up here. I flipped a 10p coin 1000 times and here is the result: Heads - 428 Tails - 572 What does this prove - Nothing. I was not trying to prove anything and one could argue that it was not carried out under ...

Re: Humans do have psychic powers, study claims
Ian, if you put in the results of the test into the calculator i.e. 531 hits out of 1000 on a chance of 1 in 2 then the result comes back as no signifigance and evidence of psi hitting as none! I think we may differ in what we both would accept would be classed as chance. My main gripe with this bit...

Re: Humans do have psychic powers, study claims
to claim a positive psychic ability any result would have to be in the region of 70 - 75% correct. My first thought is that "positive psychic ability" needs to be clarified. My second thought is that which ever way you define it, the above assertion is incorrect Ian I suppose when I state...

Re: Humans do have psychic powers, study claims
Much depends on the size of the test. The bigger the test, the smaller that overall deviation from chance needs to be in order to be significant. Ian Ian, you are quite right about the size of the test but I wonder at what point percentage wise things do become significant. For instance if I was to...

You have shown an edited version from the Daily Telegraph. A slightly more in depth report is available from the new scientist here:

Re: Humans do have psychic powers, study claims
I would have liked to see what all the experiments were. I'm afraid as much as I know that we do have psychic abilities, setting something up where there are only two choices and the result shows that the participants were wrong 46.9% of the time is not any great claim.

Re: Dowsing and Magic
An interesting topic and one which I guess that I have had a bit of thought about in my early stages of dowsing whch i am in at present. Although I am extremely open to all arguments my own belief is that ANY movement of the pendulum does come from some sort of muscle reflex that is controlled by ou...

Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF
I find the subject of water running underneath houses interesting. I have dowsed what I perceive to be a spring or stream of water which runs through our garden and underneath a corner of the house. We are now experiencing some problems with damp coming into the foundations at this corner and I am a...

Re: Ghostly photograph taken at execution site
Interesting photograph. Just on the subject of ghostly photos. As a member of a paranormal investigation group we used to get photographs submitted to us for our views. One was causing a bit of a stir until it was revealed that you can get an i phone app which can put a variety of ghostly figures on...

Re: How did you discover dowsing?
Davie, how wonderful that you were taught hands-on by a seasoned dowser! Your experiences with finding lost items are intriguing and make me wonder if you have an interest in "forensic dowsing" related to missing persons. Oh Bonnie, if only you knew what my "day job" was. I now ...

Re: How did you discover dowsing?
We were having problems with the water supply at our house and were considering having a new water supply installed. An elderly man who resides in our area is a dowser and he came round to dowse the field around our house. I knew him personally from other areas of life and he could see that I was ta...
