Re: Justice for Wilbur
That is so awful. I can't believe people are just allowed to let a snake like that roam around in their garden. Any small pets in the neighbourhood would be at risk. Unfortunately I couldn't sign the petition cause I am not a citizen or resident of the UK.

Re: Justice for Wilbur
Coventry Council is asking people NOT to feed the birds in the garden, what next, yes that Tiger is fine, but dont let us catch you feeding the sparrows. PEN PUSHERS GONE MAD .

The dark side of the trade in exotic pets...
from the Daily Telegraph...
If people weren't feeding this trade it wouldn't survive. The fine is pathetic. So long as it's worth the risk, this type of thing will continue.

Re: Justice for Wilbur
I see that the Government has no plans to add non venomous, but lethal snakes to the Schedule in the near future.

Re: Justice for Wilbur
A disappointing response from No.10. Let's hope Gordon suffers a suitably crushing defeat at the next general election - not that I like any of the others any better.
Here's a recent article from the Telegraph...
The laws in this country are dumb. Snakes are not pets. Crocodiles are not pets. People shouldn't keep these things as pets, it's wrong.

Caesar the spectacled caiman crocodile, who lives with his owner in a converted bungalow in Kent, is one of dozens of alligators and crocodiles kept as licenced pets, according to a Sunday Telegraph study.

Clearly then, these animals are not safe to be kept as pets. They must also be covered by insurance, in case the creatures should attack or kill anyone.

agree 100%. Those "exotic pet" lovers create the black market and cause the extinction of species in their natural habitat, eg gorillas and chimps. Our own chameleons, tortoises and rare spiders are under threat.
