That is so awful. I can't believe people are just allowed to let a snake like that roam around in their garden. Any small pets in the neighbourhood would be at risk. Unfortunately I couldn't sign the petition cause I am not a citizen or resident of the UK.

A man taped 14 royal pythons and 10 albino leopard geckos to his body in an attempt to smuggle the reptiles into Norway, customs officials said on Monday.

If people weren't feeding this trade it wouldn't survive. The fine is pathetic. So long as it's worth the risk, this type of thing will continue.

A disappointing response from No.10. Let's hope Gordon suffers a suitably crushing defeat at the next general election - not that I like any of the others any better.

The laws in this country are dumb. Snakes are not pets. Crocodiles are not pets. People shouldn't keep these things as pets, it's wrong.

They must also be covered by insurance, in case the creatures should attack or kill anyone.

Clearly then, these animals are not safe to be kept as pets.

agree 100%. Those "exotic pet" lovers create the black market and cause the extinction of species in their natural habitat, eg gorillas and chimps. Our own chameleons, tortoises and rare spiders are under threat.
