Dowsing in "Herge's Adventures of Tintin"

Just a thought, but if the Tintin annual #1 (link broken) makes reference to the art of dowsing then perhaps this is something the BSD might think about stocking in the BSD shop, along with Red Rackham's Treasure?

It could be promoted as a fun way of getting kids involved with dowsing!

My bet is that the one on the left is the front cover from Le Petit Vingtieme from the following week i.e. 21st of March 1940. I haven't been able to find that one on e-bay...yet !

This turns out to be wrong. The cover of the 21st of March one is completely different and has "Joyeuses Paques" at the bottom.

I can now confirm that Tintin & Snowy album #1 (link broken) does indeed contain instructions for using L-rods. However more albums have come out since - it looks like they're doing one each year, so how long this one will stay in print I don't know (it came out in 2005).

The instructions are on page 32 under the heading of "Crackpot Inventions", but it's not skeptical at all.

There are also references to Desert Survival (although this doesn't show Tintin using a Y-rod) and a
long section on Red Rackham's treasure.

The book is a hardback and good quality. It would be a good one to accompany Red Rackham's treasure.

Herge's Adventures of Tintin are to be translated into Welsh, according to this article...

I'm not so sure about some of those name translations !!!!

I just found the following comment on the Tintinologist forum:

Explorers on the Moon - Tintin discovers the existence of water on the moon.

This wasn't proved until a few years ago. Now when people look back people see Herge as a visionary.

"The first press screening occurred in Belgium on October 10, 2011. Sony will release the film during late October and early November 2011 in Continental Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and India. Paramount will distribute the film in Asia, New Zealand, the UK and all other English speaking territories. They will release the film in the United States on December 23, 2011."

Filmdate says the UK première is October 23 in Leicester Square, followed by national release on October 26.

I guess Tintin is bigger in Europe than in the States, so we're getting it before them - Region 2 before Region 1 - makes a change !

It seems an odd decision to make - the Prof. is such a key character.

According to the Wikipedia page on Prof. Calculus, Herge was indeed a believer in dowsing and actually knew Victor Mertens who had used a pendulum to find the lost wedding ring of Herge's wife in October 1939.
