Good find Ian, I used a friends Hazel rod some years ago, and found it to be be very good if a bit violent when it moved, twisted my wrists something awful...But I use the short L rod now as I can dowse from the car without poking anyones eye out, but in the open a Hazel Y rod takes some beating I agree, you just need more space around you to work, but its good.
