from the Daily Telegraph...
The man who is allergic to Wi-Fi

A club DJ, Steve Miller, has revealed he has been forced into exile by a powerful allergy to Wi-Fi internet waves which leaves him feeling dizzy, sick and disorientated.

I just read about Witricity on the BBC Website, using electromagnetics to charge up gadgets in the home instead of plugging them in.
What a nightmare!

The wireless power is an interesting concept right enough, and will probably be embraced wholeheartedly by an increasingly gadget-hungry public; but the effect it has on humans remains to be seen. As they say in the article, it is dependent on the frequency of the transmission, and will also depend on the power levels involved. I notice they are very careful not to talk about power levels, but on this Wikipedia page they,
suggest that the exposure levels will be below the threshold for FCC safety regulations, and the radiated-power levels will also comply with the FCC radio interference regulations.
... which would imply that we are talking about very low power levels, below .04 nanoTesla; which is generally regarded as the safe threshold for magnetic field exposure - this according to studies of childhood leukaemia cases related to ELF exposure, detailed on this page about ELF magnetic fields (link broken)
on the WHO site:
Using the standard IARC classification that weighs human, animal and laboratory evidence, ELF magnetic fields were classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans based on epidemiological studies of childhood leukaemia. Evidence for all other cancers in children and adults, as well as other types of exposures (i.e. static fields and ELF electric fields) was considered not classifiable either due to insufficient or inconsistent scientific information.
As usual, more research will be needed before we can definitely prove whether or not this technology causes problems; and (also as usual) the general populace is being used as guinea pigs in this experiment.

Another primary school in Northern Ireland has decided not to use wireless technology after a parent cited health fears, it has emerged.
Ballycarrickmaddy Primary removed its wi-fi system last year.
From the Beeb, click here

And then there's this:
Researchers say they have created a special kind of paint which can block out wireless signals.
It means security-conscious wireless users could block their neighbours from being able to access their home network - without having to set up encryption.

Stealth WI-Fi, its a good idea that paint,as it will work both ways, you can defend your home against your neighbours wi-fi and his or hers transmissions and radiation, can I buy it down HOMEBASE ?

On a somewhat different note but along the same lines, now there's this to consider, as well! The mattress coil as antenna - ugh.

Thus, as we sleep on our coil-spring mattresses, we are in effect sleeping on an antenna that amplifies the intensity of the broadcast FM/TV radiation. Asleep on these antennas, our bodies are exposed to the amplified electromagnetic radiation for a third of our life spans. As we slumber on a metal coil-spring mattress, a wave of electromagnetic radiation envelops our bodies so that the maximum strength of the field develops 75 centimeters above the mattress in the middle of our bodies. When sleeping on the right side, the body's left side will thereby be exposed to field strength about twice as strong as what the right side absorbs.
I've noticed this effect several times when I'm testing clients' bedrooms for technopathic stress. It's not just FM transmissions either - the bedsprings amplify DECT and Wi-Fi signals too. I always advise replacing the mattress and/or bed with a non-metallic one.

That makes a lot of sense, Grahame. I invested in a Tempurpedic mattress a couple of years ago and am certainly glad about that!

Unlike Black Water Lines that piggy back on the Hartmann and Curry lines, these Wi-Fi signals are everywhere in the home, you cannot move the bed to get away from them,or place heavy blue plastic under the bed frame, as Wi-Fi could in some cases be transmitted above you downwards, IF you live in flats where the roof has any number of Wi-Fi /mobile phone aerials fitted there. WHAT a world we live in, dying to make that phone call,AND you are friends.
