A film will soon be been released called the water diviner.
Russel Crowe directs and stars in I believe.
A strange coincidence is that it is authered by a man called Andrew Knight, of Shipston on Stour.
I have a shop in Shipston on stour, as does Andrew Knight.

Apparently Russell Crowe was on The One Show tonight, to talk about this film, but sadly I missed it. Not sad really - can't stand Crowe!)
However, I did find a Guardian review of the film (undated) here.
Early in the film we learn of Joshua’s unusual ability to know where water is, a sort of Horse Whisperer for H2O. That this sixth sense doesn’t feel dramatically clumsy or downright preposterous is one of the film’s subtle but significant achievements....... Joshua’s weird gift..
I think we should all email Mr Luke Buckmaster (can that be his real name??) to assure him that this ability is neither unusual nor weird nor preposterous!!

If his scepticism towards water-divining (dowsing) is the only problem Mr. Buckmaster has with it, then I think he should have given it 5 stars. Dowsing is so often used as a metaphor, whether as an everyday figure of speech or within creative works that it has pretty much become normal. It very naturally lends itself as a way of depicting spiritual seeking or seeking more generally. The reason that dowsing appears so natural in this film is because Crowe doesn't have an axe to grind against it. The reason it seems "clumsy or downright preposterous" in other productions is entirely because the film-makers do.
I should point out that this review is from last December. The Water Diviner will be released in the UK on 3rd April 2015.
I watched the Water Diviner on TV the other day; despite my dislike of Russell Crowe, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Not an awful lot of divining going on in it though.

Not a lot of Horse-Whispering in The Horse Whisperer either!! But there is some dowsing implicit in the otherwise unexplained ability of the protagonist to locate the bodies of two of his sons in an expansive burial ground of thousands of corpses and an element of clairvoyance/precognition in his ability to see the third son doing his whirling dervish bit. Also the water-divining at the start (using L-rods in 1920!!!).

I watched it again recently when it was on telly. I am very intrigued by his 'deviceless' dowsing technique, which seems to involve holding his hand palm upward and rubbing the palm with the thumb of his other hand. I've never come across that method before and wonder where he got it from?
