by Pauline Iason
For the tide it keeps on turning
And the seasons do the same
And when we are old we must turn and view
The path by which we came
So we all must stand together
Facing to the sun
With love in our hearts and our spirits bright
FOR THE SPRINGT1ME IT HAS COME!
We have braved the snows of winter
We have kept the hearth fires bright
We watched while the sun, through the ocean swum
We have slept through the cold, dark night
But now the sun is rising
Through the heavens on his way
To warm Mother Earth and to bring to birth
Life from the cold, hard clay.
FOR THE SUMMERTIME HAS COME!
We will gather in the herbs now
We will fish the waters bright
We will play ‘neath the sun in the warmth of the day
And sleep ‘neath the moon at night
This is the time we gather
With folk from far away
To celebrate the sun’s great power
And the gifts he sends our way.
FOR THE AUTUMN TIME HAS COME!
We must gather in the harvest
We must save the fruit and grain
We must hunt and fish and trap and reap
For the winter comes again.
Our Lord he bids us work now
All the hours of his day
To gather the gifts that the Mother gives
And store them well away
FOR THE WINTERTIME IS HERE!
We may take the time to rest now
We may turn our thoughts within
We may search our souls and seek for the goals
Of the path that we walk in
For our lives are like the seasons
Turning through the years
What we sow in the spring we must gather’ in
Reap the wisdom of the years
TILL OUR LIFETIME IS DONE
